Hi there i am new to this board and new to the audio industry, was wondering about JBL car amps, i have heard that they are underpowered for the new series of amps but what about the older JBL amps? Like the GTS 180 specific.

Or give me your choice of amp that you would recommed, i am not looking for monster base but a nice loud clean system.

Thanks

Chuck

JBL traditionally has a poor name in regard to building really solid amps, but the new bp series seems to shrug off that old reputation and seem to be solid performers...I personally would not invest in any JBL amp other than the 600.1 or 1200.1...

what kind of price range are you looking at for your setup? what car is it for? how many and what kind of arrangement? 1 2ch amp? 1 2ch and 1 4ch? we kind of need to know what you are looking at before we can really give solid suggestions here...

I do not want a Booming system but a loud clear system, what i already have to put in my car is 1   6 1/2 compenent set   for the door's, 2 3 way 6X9's for the rear and what i would like to get is a single 10 for the trunk or maybe a 12, like i said i don't want a booming system just a nice loud system. Not sure what AMP to buy or at this point what kind of SUB. the car is an 88 prelude. Price is really no factor!

The reason i was wondering about the JBL is because my budy has set the record with the JBL 1200.1 with 1 10 inch sub, so i was wondering about the earlier AMP's

Sorry for not putting that in the previous post!

thanks again chuck

The GTS180(blue & white paint) is the older version, the GTS 180X (orange & white paint) is the newer version. I`ve used both and I`ve found the GTS 180X to be practically bulletproof. My daughter runs a JL 12W4-4 in a HOTBOX bandpass box and it will literally push your hair out the sunroof of her Sunfire. That`s with the bass boost off and half gain. She has engaged the thermal protection circuit by piling laundry on the amp, and tries her best to HipHop the thing to death. 4 years and still kicking. I also use JBL amps in my Silverado( GTS 180X, BP300.1, BP40.2) with excellent results. The GTS series and the BP series are worth it, the Loud&Clear series and Decade series aren`t, in my opinion.
