I have a 1995 Tahoe, and I had the viper 350HV installed and at first when it was installed it blew the fuse to the "gauges" so my speedometer didn't work and the voltage gauge didn't show a charge. I replaced the fuse and had no problems for about a month, now it blows the fuse every time that you put one in and turn the key on to crank the car. I figured it has to be a short somewhere in the wiring but I have no idea where to look. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

kasp3r20, unless someone has experienced the exact problem and figured it out it is tricky to troubleshoot that here. However, a clue to its origin is the fact that this problem initially appeared after the alarm install.

I would start by removing panels and checking all the connections and the areas (behind the dash/underdash/behind the kick panels/under the sill moldings etc.) where the security system was made to see if wire strands are shorting out or a screw is causing it..basic stuff like that. Intermitent electrical problems can be tricky to track down but since it is blowing the fuse all the time now the conditions are actually better to deal with this. If you have any access to a factory manual it can show in detail all the circuits tied onto that fuse, which is apparently live during ignition since it only blows once the key is turned.

If the problem ends up being unrelated to the alarm install you can attempt to track down the faulty component/wire by disconnecting one by one everything on that circuit until the fuse stops blowing. Can be tedious but sometimes you get lucky and it's an easy/inexpensive fix. One thing for sure...if this problem is not under warranty by the dealer or the installer it could be expensive either way since most places charge a small fortune to troubleshoot electrical problems..even if the problem ends up being something very simple to fix. If you feel you can do this yourself without causing further damage that will help...if not perhaps you have a friend that is experienced with this and is willing to help you out.

I would suggest you try the place that did the install as legit installers will stand behind thier work with a lifetime warranty on labor. However, if it turns out the problem is not related to thier install you may be charged and the shop would have every right to charge in that case.

Best of luck and keep us posted.
