Hey fellow broken backs.....

Can anyone verify the info that zeripdivad posted back in November on this car:

I have an 06 cobalt in the shop right now with PK3 plus on it, and can't get the @#$% car to crank. (yes, I've triple checked the accessory wire 12 volt dropout, etc) I Used a 556U to bypass PK3, and I've measured the cut Passlock 2 wire resistance value at 1.77k ohms.  However, the info zeripivadad posted for the 2006 G6 says use a 1300 ohm resistor inline, with doc. 1603.  Anyone ever tried a 1300 ohm resistor on the 06 cobalt? I can get the car to crank with the key physically inside the cylinder, but remove the key and no dice.  Like I said, I have a 556U on there, but have not yet tried a 556L inline on the passlock wire--but a 1750 ohm and a 1800 ohm resistor would not crank the car either.  So, will a 1300 do the trick?  This car is kicking my @SS, lol. Really wishing it was an 05!

Mike

You do not need a resisyor on the 06 thats how you do the 05. Use this diagram

You have a Pass Key III system. That is what PK3 stands for this is the transponder type system. You have RF ID chip in the head of your ignition key.The terminology is simple,if there is something special about the ignition key PK3 stamped on it or a black pellet It is called Pass-Key.VATS was only used for 2 years on the Corvette. If the GM vehicle has a Ani-Theft system and there is nothing special about the ignition key then it Pass-Lock .

Vats was used on alot of older model gms thay are the one that have the resistor pellet on the key. There is a new pk3 system thats the pk3+ and the only thing stamped on the key is the + in a circle.

Here's a good writeup of the differences of the Passlock / Passkey systems:

That kind of beats the purpose for the factory anti theft system. He already has a 556u which will work he was just having a problem with the 2nd ign.\ keysense wiring.
