I want to put a remote start on my 2005 Silverado 2500HD Duramax Diesel.   I would like to use a 2 way remote start and bypass module that have the data port communication.    Maybe GM-SL2 bypass.    Which brand remote start modules have the compatible data port?     I would like to control the rear defrost and heated seats with the remote, even though the GM-SL2 is supposed to turn them on when temp is below 32 degrees.     Where is the best place to buy the hardware?   I have researcehd Crimestopper, Compustar, Ultrastart, Bulldog.  Any information is appreciated, need some opinions from experienced installers.

We use the Compustar 2W900FM-S systems along with the iDatalink witht he 232 port. IT's a very basic installation and requires way less wiring because of the 232 port installation. Also the Compustar has a diesel timer delay on it so that you don't have to worry about wiring up a delay timer to the vehicle for the wait to start wire. Just program the module to delay start.

That idatalink sounds just like the data port set up I used today on a Buick Rendeavous. A four pin harness connects the Crimestopper remote start to the GM-SL2 module. On this particular vehicle all I had to do was hook up the wire to the OBD2 contector and was all done. It did the parklight,locks,trunk/hatch and tach through the data bus.. Was really slick and fast.. Oh modern day technology....

Thanks for the info Jeff.   Do you know if the GM-SL2 data port is RS232 like the  the iDatalink and which remote brands besides Compustar are compatable with either of these bypass modules?
