What about two kicker S15L5's? With my sealed box what do you think they would put out? about 145db? Also I received my new radio, its a Sony CDX-R5515X. For some reason though, It shuts off when I turn the volume up. Is there some kind of db cut off, or are my power wires too small or something? I never had that problem with any of my other head units.

Just because Sony doesn't make the best speakers, subs, or amps, doesn't mean they have bad cd players. I have tried multiple brands, and have found Sony to be one of the clearest, while still mixing in highs, mids, and lows with little to no distortion. Also you can't be their clarity and sn ratio for the price.

I dont like the 15 L7's    for some reason they just dont handle like the 10's or 12's int he competiton lanes, They actually do worse then the 12's or 10's from my testing, they take to big of a box to get loud, and dont handle the power as efficently as he 10's or 12's
With the CD player I would check your ground

Alright, so I guess I'll just get rid of my box, and get two 06 L5's in a ported box?
So now I need an amp...lol just kidding, I'll figure this out on my own, thanks for the help.

Wait, factory certified refurbs for '02 models are $100, and new 06 models are $125. Are the '06 models a lot better than the '02 models? Or did the remain the same throughout the years?

Yes, they are much better...espically the L5's and L7 of 06
The 06 L5's are almost Identical to the 04-05 L7's

OK. Stay away from refurbished 06's? Or are they 'good as new'?

The refurbed 06s will be good a new, I actually had beet luck with the refurbed 04-05 when I used to order them, they were actually a little stronger then the factory ones, dont quite know why
But I would highly highly reccomend the 06 model subs

Figured out the cd player issue. It's how the front speakers are wired. The dash speakers are wired to the door speakers in parallel from the factory. The new radio probably can't handle the low ohms (not really low, but you know). I figured this out by fading the speakers all the way to the rear where there is just one speaker per channel, and it didn't cut out. So the leaves me a couple options.
  1. Fade all the way to rear when in competitions
  2. Unplug my two dash speakers when in competition, or wire them to a relay where I can switch them on and off.
  3. Rewire the speakers in a series connection instead of parallel.
I'm thinking of the last one, but I wanted to know is if this new higher ohm setup would make those speakers noticeably quieter? And if so, how much?
