I was just about done with a commando rs combo in a 1999 dodge ram 1500 when I slipped and grounded out the main power wire that powers the switch ( big red wire ) problem is I do not know where the fuse it??? I looked at the power distribution box but found none to be blown. Check all the normal ones and all seem ok. I turn the key and the truck is dead. Not even a warning light on the dash. I know it is not the main fuse cause the headlights work and ac blower works. anyone had this problem???

Thanks Mike

It might be a fusable link. Look for a burnt wire close to the battery.

Did you look at the fuses under the hood?

Look for a burned up fusable link (fusable links look just like wires) located under the hood between the fuse panel and the firewall on the driver's side.

I check the fuses under the hood but they seem to be ok. I do not see a fuse link.

On another note: I was fixin to hook up lock relay when this happened. This truck does not have a OEM keyless entry. So I am going to have to use a 5 wire reverse. Where should I " tap in " , " Cut " from? In the drivers door near the lock motor? Drivers kick ? ect?

Thanks Mike

For the lock wires you can use the driver's kick panel wires or use the wires inside the door by the switch. As far as the burned out wire, did you try giving this 12 volts from another source to see if the truck responds. If it does , then it is not a fuse problem.

I did try jumping a wire from the battery and spliceing it in but it has no response seems dead still. I lloked for a fuse link but can not find one. I really do not know where to go from here. ?????

If the target wire does not respond to a 12 volt direct connection, you may have damaged the BCM or ECM. I suggest bringing in the truck into a Dodge dealership to get a professional opinion on it rather than trying to trouble shoot it for any length of time.

OK, I found the problem with the switch power. It was a fuse that was half blown. If that makes since? I decided to just put a new fuse in the slots and well i moved one it arked and well i guess it was the problem it works now.

:-)

Now back to the door locks. wich color wire do I use I have it as orange / purple [lock] & pink / purple [un lock]

Do I just Cut the wires and put one on pin 87A and the other on 30/51 per the 5 wire reverse relay setup?

Sorry to be such an I D 1 0 T but I have never done a 5 wire reverse before :-)

Thanks so much for your help

Mike

30 goes tot he motor side and 87a goes to the switch side. If you are using the kick panel wires the side of the wire that is going into the door boot is the switch side.

ok tried that problem is, I hooked it up and when I press the unlock button ( on the driver door ) it turns the dome light on then sizzle and smoke I pull the wires off. I must be on the wrong wire. The diagram I have says lock it Orange / Purple and unlock is Pink / Purple. Can you confirm this?

How can I tell if this truck had / has an OEM keyless entry?

I had this problem on a 97 mustang one time, I thoght it did not have keyless entry when infact the people had just lost the remote and told me it did not.

Thanks For the fast reply s
