Yes, cutting the wires to length is recommended...keeps the install nice and clean...not positive on the sl2, but i think if the battery dies it will keep its programming.

The GM-SL2 does not keep memory. Anytime the battery dies or is dissconnected it will need reprogramed. I tested this before I finished mounting it.

Also I now have a new problem. Everything has been fine for a week but now after remote start I will get a sercurity light warning or a service engine soon light. With using the GM-SL2 I thoght I didn't have to diode isolate the parking lights.
