Every now and then my ScyTek stops "listening" to my remotes. When i push lock, the led turns on solid, unlock turns it off, no remote start, no keyless...
pushing the lock, unlock buttons randomly and repeatedly seems to inconveniently remedy the problem, at least until next time.
is there a thoery behind this (hode hopping?) and what causes it? or a better way to fix it?
or is just the bad quality/reliablilty of an off-brand company?

I had the same problem with mine. The one way remote worked fine, but the two way would always quit working at random times, especially the unlock button. I eventually sent my remote back to them and they fixed it. I have not had too many hiccups since then. The 8000 is less than a year old and I know they are still working on getting the bugs out of their "true color" remotes. I was told they would have the bugs fixed by March...so any time now. After they get them fixed, they were going to supply upgrades for free, at least that is what I was told when I called them about a customer of mine not being able to do the two car operation with the Galaxy 5100 I installed in their two vehicles.
The problem you are having sounds like a bad antenna. Unfortunately, the antenna and camera are attached to each other. Another feature I hope they fix.

I am almost positive it is not the antenna.  How does one get the remote fixed?  after mine goes blank, I push a button and a blue screen comes up, do it again and a dull screen, then 3rd time the bright "normal screen".  I live in MD and it has been pretty cold lately.  i was thinking that was a culprit.  The LED does respond to signals sent to the Brain.

How do i get the free upgrade?

thanks

I am an authorized dealer and the one in my truck is used as a demo. If you aren't a dealer, bring it back to where you bought it and Scytek will replace it for free up to one year.
I am not sure if the upgrades apply to the Visionguard 8000. I know they will for the Galaxy 5100 and the Precision lines.
