I have a Compustar 2WFM-AS alarm I am putting in a F-350 Diesel.  I have yet to find the tach & glow plug wire in the truck.  I'm not sure if I really need the glow plug wire, since I do live in a warm climate all year, but good to know for future reference.

Notes:

*1 Without keyless entry use pink / YELLOW for lock and pink/lt. green for unlock. They are 5 wire reverse polarity mastered from the driver switch and found in either kick panel. With keyless entry use WHITE/ red for lock and BLACK/ white for unlock. They are negative trigger and found at the VSM. On the vehicles with keyless entry the GEM shuts down after the doors have been locked for a certain time period, to 'wake-up' the system refer to directfax document #1094.  *2 The VSM (Vehicle Security Module) is to the right of the accelerator pedal above the transmission hump below the radio. Not accessible from radio opening.  *3 For tach go to any one of the ignition coils and use the wire that is NOT RED / lt. green. On diesel vehicles the tach wire is green or white, in a 42 pin plug under the clamp on the engine side of the air intake duct. On diesel vehicles the wait to start light is activated by a databus wire from the ECM. To do wait to start use a pulse timer relay and follow directfax document #1091.  *4 Also found at the radio on vehicles that have the in-dash CD changer.

Is up to the installer totest all wire whenever pssible with a DMM

You should still use the glow wire just because of two reasons:

Starting the truck when the glow plugs are activated can be a huge strain on the batteries.

Do you ever travel?  Wouldn't it be nice to be able to start your truck in cold weather too?

Easier place to find tach.................. on the left side of the steering column, there is a big bundle of wires.  Taped to the OUTSIDE of this bundle is four wires that stubb out, taped at the end from the factory.  Use the GRN/WHT wire for tach.  I did an 03 a few weeks ago, works perfect, and in an easy place to get to.

Actually, that is not true.  I have yet to see one that is databus.  Unless the canadian version is different then the U.S.

Either way, there is more then 1 way to skin a cat.

Option 1 - BLACK/ pink behind instrument cluster

Option 2 - White at the Glow plug relay that is located on the left side of the engine.  You can use the white wire + or the WHITE/ green wire coming out of the relay or at the pcm module (left side of firewall) at pin 8 + while wait to start.

And Haku is right about the tach!  That is the only way to go!

I dont think that US/Canadian are different.  From my info, 03 and up are databus on the wait to start.  The 03 I just did was databus, but 15 sec timer works just fine.

Haku, did you actually test that 03?  My company truck is an '03 and i was able to get it at the intrument cluster.  I have done about 5 or 6 03's and have yet to find one that this didn't work.
Was the one you worked on a 7.3L?  Perhaps this changed when they changed the engine.  The instument cluster is the same part number according to my local ford dealership so I don't see how anything changed.
