Most if not all OEM remote FOB's have limited range in comparison to the aftermarket counterparts due to the fact that they do not have an external antenna. Most aftermarket remote starters are exactly like the add-ons as far as wiring hook ups go, except the door lock system. ( The add-on you have to hook up the unlock anyways to actuate the remote start sequence so your only 1 wire different in that respect ). There are many dealers, installers & members here in these forums that can sell you a decent unit. We have a unit that is very reasonably priced and comes with a 3 year warranty and we will give you installation support when you need it. If interested you can email me at techsupport@velocitymotorsport.com or you can go back to eBay and look at one here: http://search-desc.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=remote+car+starter&cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2F/.com%2Fws%2F&ht=1&from=R10&currdisp=2&itemtimedisp=1&st=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&srchdesc=y&BasicSearch=

Hi 98 Dodge. I recommend going with a add on unit like Jeff says. But you CAN extend the range on your factory remotes and you can make keyless entry work after the car is started. You have to find the stock keyless entry module in the car. It should usually be a green box in the Toyota that is right under the dash and easy to acsess (It should have a FCC tag ID # on it). It is a little tricky but if you have the time you can do it yourself. You have to find the wire (or wireS sometimes in the Toyota) that show 12 volts when car has ignition and turns off with car. The antenna is built in to this unit and will have to be extended with a wire (Prestige/Audiovox systems (AS-9075) already comes with the antenna). As for the hook up of the actual unit all you will need to find is the ignition wires (Directly under dash coming out of steering column), lock and unlock wires (find them off the keyless entry module), brake light wire (you will see the wire harness straight off the pedal itself, parking light wire (sometimes you dont even need to hook them up due to the factory remotes blinking the signals and the daytime running lights will stay on when the car is running), and the tach (Use 1 uncommon wire color coming out of 1 of the fuel injectors) For someone not experienced with 12 volt opperation this should take about 3 hours. USE A TEST LIGHT OR METER AND CHECK EVERY WIRE BEFORE HOOKING SOMETHING UP!!!! If inexperienced I recommend unhooking neg. batteryt cable

According to all 4 of my installation programs there is no OEM fitted security system on the 2000 Tacoma ( at least not from the factory ) . This may have been added by the origninal owner or a special feature on this particular truck when ordered. Try to install the system without the OEM alarm disarm wire hooked up and see if the system engages. If it doesn't, then your set if it does, then get back to us and I'm sure you can find a similar set up from another Toyota that you can use for reference.

Most remote starters have 2 separate fuse power wires . The Tacoma only has one so I usually place both power wires on the one power wire from the harness. The CS423 is the recommended model that we carry.
