update:  i hooked up the L+ and R+ from the ipod to the L+ and R+ going to the radio (disconnected changer's output) and connecting the L- and R- from the ipod to a ground in the area.  the radio would not turn on the changer and i got an error saying "NO DJ".  so i then reconnected the changer's output in-line with the ipod's output.  the changer worked and i could hear the CD but i could not hear the ipod.  one thing i noticed was that with the makeshift ipod ground connected the CD track would restart every ~20 seconds and i lost control of the previous and next track button on the radio.  with the ipod ground disconnected that would not happen.  any input anyone?

Go back and reread my first post. You are supposed to be doing all this at the inside of the changer. If the radio does not see a changer it will not switch to it. I thought we were supposed to take the changer apart and finding changer signal there. Then we were to interupt changer signal and send I-pod signal there. If we do it there the radio still thinks it has a changer connected and it will switch to it. It is not an AUX in on the back of the radio. It actually communicates with the changer and it knows when there is no changer.

aaahhhhhh...  i see what you're saying...  but isn't it the same signal inside the changer and outside?  like, how far "in" the changer should i go?  when i tested for the left and right channels comming out of the changer i tried right where the wiring harness connector is soldered to the circuit board.

You can do it the same way just inside the changer.
Just like you did on the radio. Changer is really easy to take apart just be careful not to lose the springs that mount the changer to the frame.

i understand what you're saying but i believe you don't understand where i tapped into the wires...  i did it about 2 inches after the changer, i already took the changer apart (that's how i found the signal)...  weather i tap into the signal 2 inches after the changer or directly inside the changer it is still the same signal and it should produce the same results...  correct?

the more i think about it i'm sceptical about the grounds (or the L- and R-)
