It's was around 95 degrees yesterday and I was playing just some normal music and I noticed hot how my MTX was getting. I decided to check it with a infared themometer to see how hot. The bottom of the amp was reading 159.4 degrees. the top was around 135 degrees. I can feel the fan and cooling system working but it looks like it just isn't keeping up. I had only been playing the system for about 10 minutes. I will have it permanently installed in a couple of weeks in a vertical arrangement with my Zapco.   I have 4 80mm fans on order to use in a push pull setup. they will be blowing across the back(bottom) of the MTX. Are the temps abnormal???

EVERY MTX amp I've ever had, or came in contact with has run EXTREMELY hot.  I'm not sure why this happens, is it the product of an inefficient power supply?  Anyway...sounds normal to me!

There is no point in putting the fans in push pull. It actually moves less air to tell you the truth. If each fan for the sake of arguement is moving 100cuft. of air a minute, 2 of them pushing is only moving 200cuft. of air, the other two fans are taking the same amount of hot air out at the same time. End result is 200cuft. of air being moved. Wire 4 fans in push though and you have 400cuft. of air being moved, end result is more hot air being removed. Wire them all in push mode.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Are you saying to put all the fans at one end? I was planning on having all the fans blowing the same direction, two at one end and the other to at the other end. the first two would be pushing the hot air towards the other two which would be pushing the air out in the open. Is this what you're talking about? This seems like the way to go to me, but then again if I knew all the answers I would need to ask questions like I do. haha

put all the fans on one end and have holes on the other end you will have more air flow that way

If I put the fans at one end I'll only be able to use 3 since the amp is 9.625" tall. The amp is going to be mounted vertical with the fans blowing across the back or underside of it. would 3 fans blowing around 30cuft per minute keep it from shutting down?

on my new cover I installed 4 120mm fans blowing air on to the amps. I am also running MTX amps, but may change them to JL or Phoenix Gold Amps. They were cheap like $5 a piece plus shipping. Check them out. http://www.moddersmart.com

Thanks I checked those out at that website. I also asked a hvac tech here at work and they suggested I go with the 2 on one end and 2 on the other end.

I've noticed that no one has asked but do you have the dual 2 ohm version wired down to 1 ohm? Because that could be a big part of why it's so hot.

300cu' - from using 3 fans like this would still be better than the quad fan push pull system which'd give you 200cu'.

More flow, 1/4th less power needed to turn a fan. Makes sense to me. I think it would cool them just right, assuming the compartment is fairly airtight for good flow.
