i do know that some of the earlier fords had a kill switch on the p/s floorboard, it was a weak magnet held up a little ball bearing that closed the contacts in the switch, if you hit something hard enough the ball bearing would fall off the magnet, but there is no way you could ruin a pump. sound like the switch was bad to begin with.
