Hello all, I am just trying to decide on a box for this speaker. All of the ported boxes I have seen have the speaker and port on the same side. I have spoken to one box builder who says a box with the speaker firing up and the port firing back is the way to go?? What do you think about this, the box will be in a 2002 Escalade with a 1000/1 amp on it. Thanks!

Build the ported box from JL's websight.

The only "design"  they show on the site is speaker and port on the same side. As far as specs go, lets say both have the correct amount of cubic feet as per JL Specs, again, I just want to see if the speaker firing up and port back is better..worse..indifferent, than firing back with the port.

experiment with different styles and positions.
build two boxes...one with sub and port on same plane and one with sub and port 90 degrees off axis.
then see what style and positioning sounds the best to you

In a car, it is usually best to have the speaker and port on the same baffle.

If the speaker firing up and the port firing toward the rear was vastly better don't you think JL would recommend that?

This kind of defeats the purpose of this post. I'd rather not waste the time, the extra money and effort if someone on the forum could offer some good insight. I'm not going to build to boxes and play trial and error.

Ahhh yes I see. So if someone asks what speakers are better for his car are you going to recommend he go out and purchase several sets so he can "try them out" and see whats best?? Lets use some common sense here.
