Why, I wonder, did the alternator whine in the F-360? I'm having issues with alternator whine (haven't completely gone over all ground resistances yet...) and wonder if a little .5farad will help me. I know it'll only strain my alt more, making a replacement sooner to come, but will it actually rid me of this whine -whenever I narrow it down to that?

This was a Hamfist idea as a last resort. We think the alternator had a bad diode. I used a 10 farad and it worked. Can't guarantee it will always work but it can't hurt to give it a try.

What kind of alternator do i want?
I had an alternator problem so I replaced by alternator, but Im not sure what I'm looking for when I shop for a new one.
Also, when i upgrade the alternator, will that make that high pitched sound be louder in my car?

No. Not in and of itself. If it's properly built, you should have no more noise than you presently do.
I'd seriously consider fixing your install, and upgrading the big three, THEN do the alternator.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
