MECP Certification

How many of you are MECP certified. At what level and how did you study for it. 

Do you think you can study from sites like these?  What other websites can you gain general knowledge of mobile electronics?

I'm going to Cal Poly, SLO, CA.  Do you think I can find a book at the campus library or the public library to help me study?

I agree with with you. It's a weak cert in my my opinion. It's better than nothing at all if you're new to the game. But there are too many youngsters walking around with this cert and making fools of themselfs when they actually get a job. So it kind of ruins it for others who really are good candidates and just wanted to go the extra mile.

Me, I'm certified at the basic level (the most I am allowed on my own)

It costed me $25 for the book, $35 registration fee....so a total of $60. I studied for a little bit (not counting my previous training in electronics) and passed with an 88%. I didn't study for two weeks up until the test and I wasn't exactly well rested.....in other words, piece of cake. I took the test at the local library.

If you don't already know about electronics, don't nuke the knowledge, it's plain and simple basics. If you are interested in more, read the recomended reading.To remember the power formulas, I made a sketch of all of them and continued doing so in a pattern that worked best for my memory. The ohms law is easy enough to work with, but square rooots and things don't process as fast for me, pure memorization for those.

Most questions you will laugh at the entire test, but it's those one or two that will get you, the real odd ball ones. I'm certain that I lost concentration towards the end of the test, because I remember second guessing a few. So, read up, get some sleep and follow the guide in the book. I think it would be easy to get 100% if you really wanted too. A pass is a pass though, and it still proves nothing in the real world.

I think getting your shop and it's installers ASE (electrical) certified is a much better idea, but MECP never hurts either. It's good to show the customers.
