I have a 1988 Plymouth Voyager from Canada...with everything stock.

I purchased  a 10 disk xtreme sound fm modulator cd player the other day and have been trying to install it for 2 days.  The first day I just couldn't figure out what to hook it up to.

Today I found out how to hook it up (I think) and had it working until I found out that the right speaker stopped working..so I patched everything back together and removed the cd changer out of the configuration all together.

So everything is back to stock...but the right speakers in front and back aren't working.  When I turn the balance all the way to right and turn the volume on low or about middle...there is no sound...when I turn it all the way up or there abouts...the left speaker starts playing...not at the loudest but it plays...

What have I done?? Are there any diagrams for this vehicles wiring?  I did notice behind the radio that there is an orange wire and a black wire that are hooked to a female plug...with only the 2 connectors..looks like a male connector would go into it..but for the life of me I can't find it.

The wiring harness had some kind of foamy tape on it...and so does this orange and black connector..as if it was in the wiring harness at one point...OR taped to something else.

Any help appreciated...or if you know of any places that might give me an estimate of repair in my area..that would be appreciated to.  I still don't know if I can figure out how to mount the changer and the modulator...

just check the connections it sounds like you messed something up behind the radio. also you can get power meaning the constant always showing 12 volts power and the common 12 volt power that turns on with the key at the back of the radio also ground the black wire of the unit to a peice of metal behind radio. not anyother wire behind the radio. do that and make sure you connections are all tight.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

Thanks for the reply!!!

The black wire I attached to the grounding strap on the back of the radio..is that a bad thing? But after taking it all out and putting it back to stock..the right side is still out... There only connections I messed with were the two large connectors with all the wires going into it...Shrug.

Dunno..

The black wire from the modulator should go to any good ground behind the radio--the grounding strap will work just fine.

There's a grey connector and a black connector.  The grey plug has the constant +12v, switched +12v, and illumination wires on it, and also the negative speaker wire for the front speakers.  The black plug has the positive wires for both front speakers, and the positive and negative wires for the back speakers, and also the remote/antenna wire.  Make sure all the wires are still secure in the harnesses--that none have pulled out at all.

Is there absolutely NO sound coming out of the front right and rear right speakers?  Or is it just really really faint?

Update -

When I turn the volume to the right...the left speaker does have some noise comming out of it.

When I turn the radio on..there is no popping from either right speaker

Is there a fuse between the radio and the right speakers that could have blown?

I just tried to upload a picture of the back of the radio..it is pretty blurry though.

why don't you put a multi meter on your speaker and check to see if there blown.....its stock and a plymouth.so you should read 8 ohms....+ or minus maybe 2...because they are sh*tty quality if there stock....thats the most simplest first step if it reads anything away from that there most likely pooched.....while your at it just change the speakers, for a few bucks get something decent

It would say "infinity" on the front of the radio display if it had the infinity system.  To my knowledge the infinity systems (and the standard stock systems) all use 4 ohm speakers, so any resistance reading on each speaker that's more than approx. 0.5 ohms off probably indicates a blown speaker.  If you push the speaker cone in and depending on how hard you push, at some point you get the correct 4 ohms, then that also indicates a blown speaker.  Speakers that are not blown would read 4 ohms (or very close to 4) all the time, no matter how much the cone moves.

If you do decide to replace them with aftermarket speakers, the front 5.25s in the dash are really easy to do--just pop the grill off witha flathead, and use a stubby phillips to unscrew them.

Before you do that though you might want to swap the left and right speakers and see what happens.  If the left side is still out after you've swapped them then you know something is wrong with the wiring or the head unit.  If not, you know you need to get a pair of new speakers.
