Koda 8, JL w1 12 sub

Right now I have a single JL Audio W1 12 and am considering buying a Koda 8 to replace it. I like the sound of the JL but the car i have now (a 2004 honda pilot) dosnt have enough cargo space for the JL sub and its large box. My question is this; would the koda 8 be as loud and sound as good as the JL sub I have right now? I have a Poweracoustik amp running the JL sub. It supposedly puts out 170 watts continuos but it only has a 15 amp fuse on it... What would be a good estimate of the power it actually puts out continuosly? I was thinking around 80 to 100 watts, would this be too much for the Koda 8? Thanks

38 is just fine as a tuning frequency.  So, it looks like you won't really be giving up too many dbs across the sub bass frequency range.  If the difference in box size works better for you, go for it!  One last thing you might want to look at before you decide to go ahead with it:  enter your estimated rms amplifier power on the signal tab in WinISD then look at the SPL graph instead of the Max SPL graph.  Since the JL is a bit more efficient you'll see a couple more db's be added to its curve.  Just something to consider.  However, even a 3db difference from 40-80 is fairly small, I doubt it will change your decision.

Remember to put a subsonic filter on the Koda if you do decide to port it, or you'll get some unwanted distortion below the tuning frequency.
