I want to get new speakers for my front doors they will take up to 6.5 I would like to spend up to 300 or around but thats not set in stone i also have factory tweeters in my windshield pillar so replacing them would be good too. Also is there any that will go down to 60hz i usually like my sub at or below 60 so it would be nice for them to pick up there.

Personal favorites are Alpine SPX-177 ( more then $300 ) and JL VR650csi ( about $300 ). Listen to as many name brand speakers as possible with the type of music you listen to. If they are in your price range and you have enough power to drive them, let YOUR ears decide.

you better shoot for 80hz, you might have more options. And of course go listen to them first! Some suggestions though, Boston, Infinity, I think the MB Quart pce216's are down to about $289 at most places.

60Hz for a 6.5? I doubt you'll find many 6.5's that will play that low at any considerable volume...
Certainly not the JL VR series speakers, I'm using both coaxials (6.5's, back dash) and comp's (5.25's, factory door location) and niether will play well at all if I cross them much below 80... I've tried and I've got gobs of power to play with.
I'd be interested to see what others say about that much bass from a 6.5...

Just finished a Honda S-2000 with Alpine SPX-177 running full range with a JL E-2150. Sounded great.

No, we were trying to get the best sound out of just the stock locations. It was the best non-sub , 17cm system I've ever done.

well in your case it would be ok play it full range since there is no sub, but ryanmc has a sub, so crossing it over at about 80 or above would be more ideal, correct?

Yes and no. Crossing over at 80 hz or above does protect the front speakers more as far as not bottoming out at higher volumes. I like to cross mine over at 63 hz because it allows the sound stage to move to the front of the car where it should be. Crossing over higher pushes some mid bass and some of the sound stage to the rear. It's more a question of spl vs. sq.

tcss: No doubt, I bet those comps souded great.. the e-series amps from JL are really something ... mated to half-way decent comps I bet that setup would sound excellent..
Yea there isn't really anything wrong with the Alpine comps per se, just that asking for 60Hz or so from (I assume) an amped 6.5 would, in my experience, drive it quickly to distortion...   Asking 80Hz from the same speaker would allow it to play quite a bit louder and remain distortion free...
Even if you could get a comparitivly clean 60Hz from a 6.5, a woofer would sound quite a bit better doing it.
RyanMC: is your goal to move some of your upper-bass frequencies to the front of the car to reduce the sense that the bass is coming from behind you? <this can be quite a challenge on anything approaching a budget> I'm not to sure what your install situation is but there are some REALLY amazing 3-way comp systems out there... check out the JLXR series 3-ways.. 1" tweet, 4" midrange, and a 6.5" mid-woofer.. I bet you'd have more luck getting < 80hz from a comp system like that. If you really wanna get goofy, and kicks are an option, you could consider the Pheonix Gold Titanium Elites.. thats a 5.25" midbass and a 9" woofer.. one of the moderators here was talking about how vicious that setup was..
Or you could raise your requirements to 80hz.. =)
