rca cables

Hello

I have a set of fosgate rca cables that are brand new. Bought them a few years ago but never used them.  The cables have a wire running in between the left and right inputs. I am not sure what the purpose of this wire is ?  I would like to use these cables in a new install .   Does this wire serve any purpose to improve the audio output of the system? Thanks.

I kinda thought thats what it was used for but was unsure. I also thought

that may be it could be some sort of noise cancelling ground for the cables.

Well, this wire is supposed to be the remote wire, but why run a 12v wire right next to the rca's? You shouldn't. You should, however, ground this out like you mentioned.

I had a similar question before. I found out that i was getting noise from using it as a remote wire. I then grounded it (ran new remote wire obviously) and found that the noise vanished.

Just one question: would you only use this ground wire if the car's standard wiring harness doesn't supply a proper ground? I always though a ground connection should be made as close as possible to the device.

No, the wire is there to combat engine noise if it present.

It's not a remote turn on, it's to help eliminate ground noise in the event that ground noise is present.  Note, that it is not a ground wire--you still need to run a heavy guage ground wire to your amp.  This wire will (in theory) help to lessen/eliminate ground noise if there is ground noise.
