Hi all I've installed an old but new remote starter that was a Christmas gift from a few years back. My vehicle is a 2000 GMC Sonoma SLS small pickup 4.3L 2wd. I've wired it and tested it but it's not starting the truck. It tries to turn over 3 times but fails each time. I've tried to increase the crank rater by 50 and 100% but that doesn't help either. I'm guessing that I've tapped into the wrong ignition wires perhaps.
This chart https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/alarmdetail/1007.html lists which wires I need to tap into but gauge sizes are not listed.
I tapped into a pink wire for ign 1 and an orange wire for ign 2 but they are the same size as most of the wires on the harness, probably 18 or 20 gauge. The harness also has a pink and an orange wire which are larger, perhaps 14 gauge. Would you guys happen to know if the ign 1 and Ign 2 wires are considerably larger than most wires on the ignition harness? Are the two large wires the ign wires I need to tap into?
I would really appreciate some help here, thanks.
PS: I'm not using Ign 3 and not suing the tach wire.

Have you tried placing the key in the switch and turn it to the run position, and try to remote start it.  Will it start now?

I havent tried that and its pouring rain outside right now. I guess if it works with the key in the run position then my wiring must be ok correct? And if it doesnt start remotly then I would assume I have tapped into the incorrect wires right?

Have you considered using a volt meter to actually test the wires before you blindly hook things up?

Wire gauge has no relevance to your problem, if you indeed tested all the wires at the ignition harness and got proper readings and connected accordingly, then i assure you your problem lies elsewhere, but if you didn't test them, or tested them and didn't know what you were looking for, then you would have a problem.

Also if the vehicle has a third ignition wire, connect it!

I vote for a lack of Passloc bypass.

I tried to remote start it with the key in the ignition and it will not start. Does inserting the key bypass the passlock system?
