Hey
Would like to know if there is a way to setup a RF sort of access as in the card system where you just keep the card thing in your pocket and you can unlock the doors with the little button on the handle and start with a push button but as soon as the card is out of range, everything goes dead? Is it something doable?

rasa74-

Not sure about the card system you refer to, but Scytek has a product called Precision Blue 1000, that uses the bluetooth signal from your phone to unlock the doors when you are in range, lock when you are out of range, etc.   I understand this can also be linked to the Scytek remote start, but I have never installed or used this system.  Bluetooth has a limited range (less than 300' Maximum distance).   Here is the link: http://www.scytek.net/precision.php?pic=images/products/precision/PBlue%201000.png

There are a number of 1 button remote starters that also allow the user to start the vehicle as well as  unlock the doors; Avital (Avistart 4113), Audiovox (Prestige APS901) are a few examples, but there are others.  These systems typically work in the 800-1200 ft range (other manufacturers may allow you to get more range).

There are also a few cell phone/remote start integration packages, allowing you to start your car or lock/unlock your doors via a cell phone-- DEI's Viper Smart Start and Audiovox ASCL100 are a couple examples. These provide unlimited range as long as there is a phone signal at the vehicle.

It all depends on what you need and how much you want to spend.

There are products on the market to do passive keyless entry and pushbutton start.

When you install pushbutton start in a non pushbutton vehicle your main obstacles are:

Secure system control (turning ignition / accessory circuits on and off, controlling the starter, etc safely and securely)

Bypassing the mechanical steering wheel lock

Bypassing the OEM security

All of these things are definately doable if you have the knowledge, time, and money!

Thanks guys
I can manage to get around the steering lock thing and also come up with a push button ignition on/start button so i basically need the access authority. I seen in a toyota passo, it has a card you keep in your pocket or handbag or whatever and as long as its within proximity, like 2m from the dash, you are able to switch on and start. There was a schematic online some time back but i misplaced the site now.
