Hello everyone, I am stuck at the final installation section of my remote starter installation. I purchased a CompuStar CS-601S and an ADS-TB IDatalink bypass module.
I have installed the remote starter and it works just fine if the key is in the ignition, will not start without the key in. When trying to program the bypass it displays a flashing red light, which would indicate that it is either incorrect connections or wrong firmware.
On the box it shows:
P/N: ADS-TB
SW: ADS-TB-TI 2
HW: ADS-TB (16)
Guide: 1842
Date: 2011-05-07
Vehicle is a 2006 Scion tC
With the guide that pulls up under that number, I have everything connected as follows.
Remote Starter - CN1 Green (ignition (+) output and input) to Bypass - 9 pin Pink (Ignition (+) input)
The CompuStar says it allows for "1 way support for Datalink protocol." for the RS232 Port.
Here is where 1 of my questions comes up. On the bypass module the 4 pin connector has pin 4 as red, pin 3 as black, pin 2 as white, and pin 1 as blue. On the CompuStar it shows on the back as pin 4 as red, pin 3 as black, pin 2 as blue, and pin 1 as white. Do I need to flip the pins on the connector to match what it shows on the datalink connector or is that not an problem?
In the instructions to map the TXCT -(Gray/Red) to Pin 5 (Red) and the CODE -(GREEN/ Red) to pin 4 (Yellow), on the 7 pin connector on the back of the transponder device on the car, there is no pin 5. I have the same exact colors but for pins 3 and 4. Pin 3 being yellow and pin 4 being red. I assume it was a mistake but every setup has it as pin and 5. Not sure if it matters or not?
Another issue I am coming to is actually finding the key sense wire which should be located in the ignition harness and show as a negative 12 volts when the key is in the ignition. I have yet to be able to find the correct wire for my car using a DMM and it showing as -12v. I have a black wire on the back of the transponder device in the car at pin 2, showing a constant -12v though. I cannot start my car with out a chipped key.
Do I need to switch the RS232 port wires to match colors on the compustar, and does it matter on the pin locations for the back of the transponder device in the car? Also if anyone knows for sure where the keysense wire is located in the ignition harness, that would be super helpful.
Thank you so much for your time.

Why not go W2W with the bypass module and avoid the confusion of D2D.  Cut the D2D harness and connect the Red wire

to +12V constant CN12-1, the Black wire to chassis ground CN1-8 and the Blue/White wire to CN2-4.

Don't forget that CN1-7 must also connect to the tC Blue Ignition1 wire.

Also don't forget to do a Factory Reset on the ADS module and then select the proper Installation Mode and lock it in

prior to vehicle programming.  ( Standard Mode, two blinks )

That vehicle has two Starter wires, two Ignition wires and one Accessory.  You will need an extra 30/40 Amp SPDT relay

with fuse controlled by CN2-2 for the second Starter wire ( use CN1-5 for Ignition2 ).

Keysense is usually a separate 2 pin connector that Toyota hides at the back or under the ignition switch.

Soldering is fun!

Thanks for your reply. So the remote starter hooked up properly. CN1-7 is connected to the blue wire on the ignition harness. I tried the W2W like you said and it still flashes red when the key is in the ignition. So I have 2 pin plug that I believe is the keysense but if I unplug it will it start the car? Mine will still start if it is unplugged. Plus there is a T-tap to another black wire. Here is a picture. http://twitter.com/MattAttack07/status/285478348606558208/photo/1 not sure how to upload besides using my twitter. Sorry.

OK.  A little confusion here.  When I open ADS Install Guide #1842 for the ADS TB with ADS TB TI firmware, it directs you

to Page 11 of 20 for the 2005 - 2009 Scion tC and the Type 2 install diagram.  That diagram does not have the ADS Pink
wire going anywhere.  Please double check me and this info / diagram then against your current wiring.  Make any and
all changes necessary.

Just checked a Toyota Sienna and the Keysense wire is in a 4 Pin plug...

Here is how to test your Keysense wire.  With all vehicle harnesses connected normally, sit in the drivers seat and open
just the drivers door.  The interior lights should come on.  Now insert the ignition key into the ignition switch.  The warning
chimes should start sounding.  Shut the drivers door - chimes stop.  Open the drivers door - chimes start again and unplug
the connector you think is the correct one.  Chimes should stop.

The other way involves using a Digital Multi Meter.  Set the DMM to 20V DC, connect the Red test lead to +12V constant.

Connect the Black test lead to the suspect wire.  You should read near 0V with no key in the ignition.  Insert the key and the
DMM should read +12V.

Not sure what that T-Tap is doing on that Black wire.  If you didn't put it there, I'm thinking it was installed with an alarm system

and that wire is for the ignition switch light ring.  (It comes on with any door opening and acts as a door trigger wire.)

Soldering is fun!

My bad. You are correct. I have been looking at several guides and the one I mistaken shows that a pink ignition on #8984. That is for a ADS-TB-TL.
I did the chime test and that 2 pin plug behind the ignition cylinder stops the chimes when the key is In the ignition and door open. I also did the DMM DMM and that is the keysense wire. So if I do the setup as W2W and using the standard mode(2 blinks) I finalize it and put the key in the ignition and there are no lights afterwards the led is blank.
When I bought the car used it came with the scion security so that could be what the t-tap is doing there? I really appreciate your help. I think I am just missing something small somewhere.

So when I hardwire the RS232 port wire. I followed your instructions and put red to constant 12v, black to ground, and the blue/white to the black status output on CN2-4. I have the WHITE/ black wire to the keysense wire, and the white to the ground. And the other 2 wires to the transponder device(thing that attaches to the ignition cylinder.) When I turn the key, nothing happens on the ADS-TB-TI. I think I may have a incorrect firmware installed? I am going to see if this car audio place can flash the correct firmware and see if that does the trick. I believe with all the wires connected properly it should allow for programming of the bypass module.

It is possible that the firmware has been changed ( re-flashed ) fromthe original factory load.

The sequence should be:

1. Factory Reset

2. Set Install Mode to Standard ( 2 blinks ) and lock it in.
3. Program to car with key ( might take more than a few seconds ).

Might want to verify your Code and TXCT wire connections and solder joints.  Keysense is an important signal for the programming process.  It must go to (-) for the bypass to program.  If it fails try disconnecting the Keysense wire from the car, do the 3 steps above again but just jump the ADS Keysense wire to chassis ground when you insert the key.

So I have found something crazy. If I have it setup where the red is at a 12v constant, black to ground, and blue/white to status output, along with pink for the ignition output/input(+) with the keysense wire and the TXCT, and Code wires connected it flashes the LED red, yet it will start the car for the brief moment maybe like 3 seconds before it does. This happens with a non chipped key that has never started the car before. When trying with the remote starter it will try once but it never starts cause crank time is to short and on the second try it kills the remote starter process, usually it will try 3 times.

Really confused now.   06 Scion tC Transponder Bypass -- posted image.   Which firmware is loaded?  Which Install Guide should you go by?

Bottom line, a R/S won't work until the bypass is programmed properly.  Not worth playing around with various scenarios.

As a test, unplug the ADS power connector, insert a working key into the ignition cylinder but do not turn it.  Then try a remote start.

Soldering is fun!

Correct, with the key in the ignition the remote starter works without any issues. The only issue is the either the wiring with the transponder or the firmware. The thing I am unfamiliar how to tell what firmware is loaded on the bypass module.
