The 690xv is both POSITIVE & NEGATIVE Pulse Door Lock......DEI suggests that U use Relays in conjunction with your Door Locks.  Some installers hook direct...........

Power LockWHITE/ GREEN      ( +  )DRIVER KICK
Power UnlockYELLOW /GREEN    ( + )PANEL
Positive Pulse Door Locks

PS: What are the negatives to hooking directly to the wire?...I have read both good and bad things about this, but dont know which to do. the brain unit sends out 200ma..is that enough to power the factory car relays?...again its a 1998 ford contour svt

The worst thing will be that it will not supply enough current to unlock or lock the doors consistently. If your in there wiring things up already, it will take you less time to wire in relays now, then have to take everything apart the second time. 200ma is enough to trigger a SPDT relay. Wire up like this http://www.velocitymotorsport.com/images/install_notes/N2P.jpg

If you wanted to use the trunk release you would need a relay for that too.
