2000 dodge Dakota

Autostart Remote start unit.

Problem.... Start the truck using remote start.... everything goes as planned... starts right up!!! Then after about 5 seconds the motor or trans starts to make a "whirring" noise. Still runs like it should but the weird thing is that when I turn the key to the on position.... the noise goes away.... meaning something is not getting power, right? You can hear it on both sides of the truck so I am assuming it is the trans. Any Ideas?

does this happen all the time, or on remote start only? try starting with the key then get out and see if you here the noise.  i had a 2000 dakota 4.7 ltr. v8  and after start up, sometimes the compressor for the a/c would whir or whine.   just an idea

you also might want to make sure that all your ignition connectionsand acc. connections are made properly.

only happens when remote started... just installed it tonight

I can turn the key to the on position while it is making the noise.... and it goes away instanly

Radio and heater come on when remote started.... but I will check the Acc wires....

I had this problem before too, let's see if I can remeber how to fix it.....
I'm pretty sure what jaqueslacombe said is true but if that doesn't work then try the same thing he suggests but add a to relay to isolate the ignition wires..good luck!

Scratch that.... The tach wire DID NOT fix the problem.... What I do notice is the car does not know that it is in park, The gear selector indicator does have a box around it when the car is remote started.... but when I turn the key on it does. So I am guessing that the trans has no Idea where its at.

There should be a GREEN/ red second ignition that needs to be powered up. You are right... the transmission isn't happy. The whirring noise you hear is a solenoid.
