My car is a 1989 Chevy Cavalier in good condition. However, every once in a while, when I use the turn signal, my wipers flash on for a single wipe, then immediately stop again. I'm not hitting the wiper knob at all when I signal, and sometimes the wipers flash on for no apparent reason when I'm just driving along.

Is there an electric short somewhere that I don't know about, or is it something else? Any help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks.

Does your Cavalier have a single multi-function lever for turn sigs., wipers, dimmer, and cruise? Or does it have two levers: one for wipers, and the other for turn signals and headlights and cruise? If it's got the single lever, that might just be bad, so you could try replacing it.  If two levers, they might be connected on the column somehow.

I have an 88 Cavalier that does the same thing, I had it to a couple shops. They couldn't find anything wrong, so I just live with it..............Harry

You may want to check the Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's) for your car to see if there is a recall/model wide problem.  There are several web sites where you can do this.  Some Chevrolet Blazers in the late 80's had this problem which was repaired free by the dealer by replacing the multi-switch on the steering column.  (My '89 Blazer had the same problem and was repaired by the dealer as part of a recall) Some of the later Mazda/ranger pick-ups have had similar problems which were part of a recall.
