My head unit is a kdc-x559 kenwood, my amps are a soundstream lil' wonder and a rubicon class a 10.2, my subs are 3 JL audio 12 w3's in a open chamber 3 cubic foot box sealed. I just installed my new rubicon amp tonight and realized that it didn't have a crossover built into the amp, oops. I have one built into my head unit which has a non fading output that is the one I am running to my rubicon. It is set at 50hz. Is this a good choice for a crossover or should I leave the setting on the head unit alone and buy a seperate crossover to run in line with my rca wires. Also what would be the optimal settings for my subs. I know that how a speaker acts does vary from box to box. Any suggestions on how to tune it would be welcome.

50 hz seems low to me, i've always kept mine at between 80-100hz. I've never used a decks crossovers before so i cant say on that one.

I suggest that if your head-unit has a 80hz crossover you use that setting, if it doesn't.......  you may want to consider a add-on crossover or pre-amp eq to control the subs seperatly from the rest of the speakers.

50hz won't hurt the subs but  your not using the 50-80hz range.
