Hi there.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Does the CD player contained in the 2003 Honda Civic EX have preamp outputs and remote leads for the installation of an aftermarket amplifier?

I don't want to rip apart my dash to find out.

Regards,

Ed

Are you referring to the separate factory cd player?  Or did the car come with a cd player/radio combo unit?

Either way there's no preamp outputs already in the vehicle.  You'll have to use a 4-channel line output converter if you're installing a 4-channel aftermarket amplifier, or a 2-channel line output converter if it's just a sub amp.

The aftermarket amp's remote turn on connection can be made by just tapping in to the +12v switched wire in the radio's harness.  Here's the wiring info I have for the 03 civic--as always, verify these wires with a DMM first before making connections to them.

GROUNDBLACK-RADIO HARNESS
ACCESSORY 01YELLOW+IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
ILLUMINATIONRED / BLACK+RADIO HARNESS

Just the cd player/radio combo unit that comes standard with the EX.

Thanks ethan. I think it's time to purchase a new head unit. I don't like the converters... Unless they've signifigantly improved since I was into this hobby (about 5 years ago).... the sound quality suffered.

Would be nice if I could find a head unit that completely enveloped the slot taken up by the stock head unit... I don't remember if it is the standard size or if I would have to use one of those ugly and cumbersome brackets..

Actually you'd be surprised at how good aftermarket units look when used with this dash kit.  You can hardly even tell the difference.
