If I am going to be using 2 Infinity Perfect 12 VQ woofers and a pair of 6 1/2" Infinity Kappa components.  Do I need to have 3-way 6"x9" coaxials or will a regular 2-way be enough?  Thanks for the comments you make.

How do either sound to you?

k.i.s.s method could be applied here, less is more sometimes.

I didn't really get to listen to either of the sets.  I just heard that it isn't really important for 3-way 6"x9" since i won't need them for rear fill.

Sorry for the double post.  Wouldn't the 3-way just make it go higher and take awaa from my front soundstage.

Gimmickry, that's all it is.  Like if you count all the little speakers up (like a Bose system, for example) it makes it sound as if it's more impressive.  Did you ever look at the teeny little caps tucked up under the tweeters on a coaxial?  So small that any reasonable power input is going to make the crossover frequency go all over the place anyway?  And with splitting the tweeters to make the third "super" tweeter, a still tinier cap is used on it.  So anyway, two-ways are enough, and their purpose should be limited...like "is there sound coming out of these?"

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

OK stevdart.  I thought I didn't need them, but I didn't wanna sell myself short.  Thanks for the help.  Would 5"x7" components be better than 2-ways in my case?

Why not just use 6.5" components then? There are adapters for this application.

I'll have 6.5" components in my door.  I thought it would be better to have 5"x7" components in my rear deck.  I guess not?  Why should I use 6.5" components?

It depends on just how much importance those speakers are in the whole scheme of things.  I use plain 6 X 8 coaxials for rear fill in my car and keep them low.  Probably more for stubborness than that I actually need them there.  CDT makes some inexpensive "rear speakers" that are round coaxials with a pivotal tweeter.  But the thing is, if you're going to use more speakers for any reason, their sound will be in the mix, so you want the best quality you can get in comparison to the quality of the mains.  You don't want two or four crappy tweeters mixing in with the sound of the tweeters up front....so select the speakers based on the way they sound as if you were listening to them as your only speakers.  Just keep the costs in line with the relative value you are putting on them, the relative volume they will be played and what is dictated by your overall system setup.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

There are a few resaons.

1. There are a heck of a lot more 6.5" components to choose from than 5x7 comps.

2. Some feel that the quality of sound from an oval speaker is not as good as a circular speaker. I have oval speakers (6x9"s) and could care less about them. They are just rear fill.
