2000 Sunfire Wire Harness

I am trying to install an aftermarket cd player. After going to the third store to find a harness kit, the guy tells me that I need this pretty massive $60.00 kit that comes with a replacement speaker and a ton of other stuff. He says that several systems wont work if I don't use it. Is there a workaround for this? The car doesn't even have most of the systems that would be affected. The door chime is not a big deal, but is there an issue with the air bags?

The relocation kit is BS and not needed.  You will only lose your chimes.  Only other problem is that you need to find a switched 12V wire I believe.  You can tap into the wiper fuse I think.  The site explains everything, so check it out.

There is no switched power available at the radio.  There's a thick brown wire coming from the steering column---you can likely find it more easily somewhere else under the dash----attach a fused lead to it, and run it to your radio.

There is switched power available at the climate controls, which are very easy to access---but it is ignition-switched power; the radio won't work in the Accessory position if you use this.
