Hello!

I'm trying to figure out how to do a keyless ignition system in my 1970 Chevelle. I've found one company (Flaming River) that makes a kit, but it's quite pricey ($599). So, if any one knows another company who makes this, or a way to build it, let me know. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for all your help.

Do you mean remote start?

Carburated vehicles are very difficult to start.

It all depends on what you want for security.

If security isn't an issue you can install a simple toggle switch for the ignition circuit and a pushbutton for the starter.

Flip the switch and push the button to start, and then flip the switch again to shut the vehicle off.

If you want to add some sort of security that is where it gets pricey/complicated.

Yes, the vehicle still needs to be secure... If it's a circuit I can build, I have no problem doing that (Im versed in component level eletronics repair). Thanks for any help you all can give.

The type of security is up to you, there really isn't a one size fits all solution.  You can do something as simple as a hidden magnetic swtich to a complete RFID package.  You could incorporate fingerprint scanning or even retna scanning.  It all depends on what you want, and how much you are willing to spend.

Trying to do something similar to the systems the oem uses w/ a key fob that reckognizes it's in the car, so the car can then be started by pushbutton. Thanks.

For a wirless security option you'll either need to be very creative or prepared to spend some money.  The OEM type transponder system isn't really a good option, as their range is terrible.  You could do something with RFID, but it is expensive and hard to integrate.

You could also do bluetooth or zigbee (probably your best choices), but both of them will required battery powered transmitters that could leave the driver stranded if the battery dies.

There are options out there, but every option has a drawback, so you will be forced to sacrifice somewhere.
