APS 996 arm and lock trouble

I'm in the middle of installing an aps 996 on my trans am.  I'm new to automotive electrical work so it's taking a while and I'm doing it in parts.  One major problem right now is that I can't get the system to arm.  The disarm function works fine, consistantly flashes the parking lights and inconsistantly unlocks the doors.  I've tried arming with both remotes, so I don't think it's a remote issue.  Both remotes work for disarming.

I'm wondering if maybe because I don't have everything connected yet, there's a missing necessary connection in order to arm the system.  Is there anything that needs to be installed in order to arm the system, but not to disarm it?

Also, I mentioned the door unlock function works inconsistantly.  I read that in order to make this work, the BCM (Body Control Module?) needs to be "waken up".  Does anyone know how wake it up?
