Hi, I have installed a ct-5000 on a 98 Windstar. After hooking everything up, I was able to program the remotes, but I cannot complete the tach learning process. I'm sure I have the right tach wire since I have tested it, and the ct5000 acknowledges the signal (with 5 flashes). As the instructions for the remote learning were not totally right, I would assume that there is also something wrong with the tach learning instructions.

So I need the correct instructions for the tach learning procedure. Anyone can help ? Prostart CT-5000 tach learning -- posted image.

Thank you for your answer. I do have the manual that came with the alarm and I had already checked the online version which is totally similar. When I was programming the remotes, I noticed that I couldn't do it if I followed the instructions from the manual (it says "wait until the parking lights go out", and if you do that the remotes are not programmed). Since this happened with the remotes, I assume that it might be the same with the tach learning. Then I read https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=7687&KW=prostart">here that the tach learning instructions are wrong.

Any help ?

hi for tach warm car up first idle has to be below 1000 to learn  then follow direction ive done about 50 of those units and never had a problem where about in canada do you live i might be ablke to help you if in alberta

hi let me know how you make out i had one problem with a 99 windstar thebrake wire show 8v at rest had to relay isolate to keep rs from shutting down

Still no luck with the tach learning thing. How much time is it supposed to take ? I've never let it more than a couple minutes, maybe it needs more ?

All the rest is working perfectly, in fact it was easy to find all the cables with the information I got from Prostart web site. No problem at all with the brake wire; in fact it was the only one where the color didn't agree with the info I had, but I tried with the voltimeter and it was easy to determine the +12v cable.

hi what color did you hook to for the tach and the brake wire does the led flash when armed or is it lite solid

Ok, I think I know what the problem might be. I was checking what cable was the one I'm using for the tach signal, and I discovered that it is the Mass Airflow Sensor; I was delluded because I checked with the voltmeter and it had AC current, varying with the revs. But maybe there is something different about it ? Later today I will look for the usual tach wire at the PCM. By the way, the Prostart site recommends using a cable at the coil (looking for this one is when I messed up). What is better, coil or PCM ?

The brake wire is hooked to a green cable at the brake pedal switch. I tested 12v when the pedal is pressed, and the alarm is responding well, both in programming and use (for instance, by locking the doors when I press it after start), it is detecting the pedal pressed.

The led is a weird thing. When the engine is running (system disarmed) it flashes constantly. When the system is armed, it doesn't light up at all. Is that a normal behaviour ?

Four hours later: total failure. I changed the tach wire to the RED / blue at the coil (as the Prostart site says) and I failed to do the tach learning procedure. Then I changed the wire to the WHITE/ pink at the pcm and again nothing happened.

I start the tach learning procedure, I get the four chirps, and the next thing that is supposed to happen is that the parking lights should go out when the signal is detected. They do go out indeed, but flashing twice. And it never gets to the point of making the chirp/s that should indicate that the signal has been learnt.

I guess I will ask the Prostart support people tomorrow. In any case, I was surprised that the two supposed tach wires have ac voltage (around 10v), but it doesn't seem to change when the revs change.
