1998 Mustang Cobra Convertible

Whenever the power locks are used to lock the doors the factory security will arm. (using fob or the button inside the car)  Problem is no matter what I do after the theft light on the dash goes out (approximately 30 seconds after locking the doors) Foatory panic / alarm kicks in with the horn and lights flashing.  This is driving me nuts because I cant figure it out.  One solution I have considered is to unhook the factory module in the trunk  and just use an aftermarket system.  Will that sure my problems you think?  Does the car get crazy if the module is disconnected?  Any insight or ideas to help me would be appreciated.

Thank you

Chris

I don't know what your trying to say about your problem ? Your saying that the OEM THEFT LIGHT goes out when armed ? That's the only problem ? The theft light is for the PATS system not the OEM security system. Please elaborate.

What my real problem is if I use any method to lock the doors other than the key in the door or just pushing down the lock the factory "panic" systen will kick in about 30 seconds after the door is locked.  I cant figgure out what it tripping the security.  Normally the horn honking alarm thing wont trip unless a door is opened but mine goes off for reasons unknown.  I close the door hit the remote lock button and 30 seconds later the horn is honking and the lights are flashing.  Hopefully that helps some.  I see your in Canada, I love it up there.....Especially when I get the chance to have a few Kokanees.

Thanks for any help you can provide....

Mmmmmm.... Kokanee 1998 Mustang OEM security gone loco -- posted image.. Any way, sounds to me like there's a door trigger falsing out your GEM module. Have you seen if the dome light is triggered in the 30 minutes ? You may need to sit in the car with a DMM to monitor the voltage on the door trigger wire or the trunk trigger wire to see if it tests 12 volts after 30 minutes.

The mustangs didnt get a GEM till 99.....or so I was told.  I have a module in the trunk left rear side with the factory module.  I have an installer friend coming over tomorrow and were going to trace the wires to see hwat we find.  He has the tech soft program with the wiring diagrams.  I will double check the door triggers tonight though (gray or blue\org I believe).  Problem is it only takes 30 seconds then all heck breaks loose.....maybe I should disconnect the horn.  The unlock button or key in the ignition will deactivate the panic.  Thanks you

Yes, if I use any power method to loch the doors the alarm will trigger about 30 seconds after the door closes.

Example #1, I open the door, lock it with the buttin the inside, close the door and 30 seconds later the factory alarm goes off

Example #2, I close all the doors and hit lock with the remote (once or twice it doesnt matter) and 30 seconds later the horn is blaring.

Thanks for any assistance you may be able to lend

Chris

I only have one remote and its not the factory original.  I dont have an underhood light.  I will check the trunk.  I figgured since it doesnt even require the remote to replicate the problem that the remote is probably not at fault.  I will also check the glove box.

Thanks again

Might sound D U M B, but I was wondering if Remote is sending signal when bumped or if it is on all the time.  We have a unit that checks frequency and Remote functions. I have seen them stick.  Or U could take out battery / s

JUST THINKING........Long shot
