2001 GMC Sierra problem with RS & Alarm

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500HD pickup that I had a shop install an Autopage RS-850LCD in.   I am having a couple of problems with the alarm. First, sometimes when I disarm the alarm, the horn starts honking and will not stop until I put my key in the door and unlock it with the key. I'm assuming this is the factory alarm being triggered.   It doesn't do it all the time, but it sure is annoying. Next, the remote start will not work.   It will turn the truck ignition on, engage the starter, and it sounds like it starts and then shuts off, but then it sounds like it tries to crank a couple more times with no spark. The shop I had install this has since changed ownership and now I'm SOL. I know there are some very sharp people on this board so perhaps someone can guide me in fixing these problems. I've lived with them for 2 years, but i'd like to fix them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. John

This sounds as if they did not hookup the factory alarm disarm wire. The disarm wire on the 01 Sierra is a light green wire located in the driver's kick panel and at the purple plug at the BCM. The BCM in this truck is very easy to get to, just pull down the cover under the drivers side dash and the box is right there with all of the plugs facing you. It requires a negative trigger to disarm the factory alarm. I do not have a manual for your system to verify which wire you would connect to it, but it should be listed as a factory alarm disarm or similar.

Is the theft light on the dash flashing while it will not start? Will it start with the key? This sounds as if the Passlock II bypass module is not operating properly or is defective. Do you know what bypass they used? If you do then maybe someone here can shed some light on how to verify that the proper connections were made (and if need be how to reprogram it). Thanks for the reply.   I'll check out the factory disarm wire this weekend.   The installer argued with me over whether or not it had a factory alarm.   I told him it did.... I'll see if the remote start will work with the key in and look for the factory security light.   It has been awhile, but I think the bypass module is 555L? John

John, if the system was isntalled by a shop make sure you bring the truck back to them to get things fixed otherwise they could waive your warranty if they found that you tampered with the installation. This is just a heads up for you incase you wish to bypass them altogether now and try and fic it yourself.Jeff

John, so it's in your court now. Try this to make sure that it's not your wiring, start the truck and press the start button on the remote. Wait 2 seconds after it starts and remove the key from the ignition and see if the vehicle stays running. If it does stay running for more than 5 minutes, then it's not your wiring it's the Passlock II bypass module. If it dies right away, then the first thing I would check is the tach signal wire.Jeff

Ok, I tried using the remote start with the key turned all the way on and it wouldn't do anything.   In the ignition position, it tries to start and engages the starter, but will not fire up. I started the truck and then pressed the remote start button and it didn't seem like it was doing anything. I then took the key out and it died instantly. Next, I had the key in the ignition position and pressed the remote start button.   As soon as it started to crank the starter I manually turned the key over as if I was starting the truck.   It started this time, and when I took the key out it continued to run.

Here is a simple note to remember about GM anti -theft systems.If it is Pass-lock.There is components inside your ignition tumbler not in your ignition key.If you have pass-key system then you have components in your ignition key.
