I am hardwiring a Wayfinder digital compass to a 04 Volvo. The hardwire consists of a hot wire with fuse and ground wire.  Where is the best place to hook into the power supply of the car apparently so power is constantly to the unit? Being a dummy on electrical systems, I assume the ground can just be attached to any metal bolt that is attached to metal of the car. Thanks.

You can wire the Wayfinder to the cigerette lighter for a constant +12 VDC. The ground point should be varified with a DMM, because some vehicles use plastic inserts to seperate partitions in the LCP or in the cowl.
Anytime you see a OEM area with a ground plane attached, that is a good indicator that the area is sound for use.
