Hey...i was wondering about the best way to angle my speakers in my car, not sure how to go about doing that.  I have 5 1/2" premier 3 ways in the front and some crap Koss 6x9s in the rear (will upgrade once the fiberglassing is done)   The 6x9 point right up...stock...infinite baffle...not that great.  I took out my tortion bars because the speakers are deeper than stock and the bars hit the speakers.  I was wondering if it would be better to point the 6x0s directly forward or at a 45 degree angle?  does it matter if they point more in or out or straight forward?  i dont want too much rear sound...its not too bad right now, but the front speakers definitely need to be changed and angled.

The 5-1/2" speakers in the front may get replaced with 6-1/2" speakers...does it sound better getting the subs with a tweeter rather than using say a 3-4 way speaker......do I even know what the heck I'm talking about?  i figgure they need to be pointing more towards the middle of the car at about eye level?

I dont want to have a crazy pounding system, but i was thinking 4 subs even if i go cheap on the brand because its more the trunk itself that i want to impress people with....and i have heard some pretty sweet systems with just pyramid subs and a good amp.

anyone have any suggestions that may help?  Greately appreciated

You don't need to or even want to image your rear speakers. They're for fill only and if they were imaged they'd draw attention away from the front speakers.
Multi-way speakers (3,4,5, etc.) are not the best speakers to use. A good coaxial will have a woofer and a tweeter, probably with an outboard crossover. Multi-way speakers are for the mass consumer and generally not the best.
I'm going to pretend I didn't read that third paragraph. :)

ok thanks...then I'll ust raise up the 6x9s and keep them pointing up.  I'll also look into some different front speakers then as well.  yes...the 3rd paragraph is useless.  I was gonna go somewhere with the design, but decided it didnt matter a whole lot at this stage....an i wont be going with pyramid subs so dont worry, maybe some type R rockfords or something.

if your going to be imaging your fronts. kickpods are the answer (obviously) but have a friend (about the same height as you would be better) sit in each seat. so if your imaging the right front. have your friend sit in the driver seat, then point the speaker right at his/her ear. and even get down to the kickpanel and eye level it. do the same for the left front speaker, and have your friend sit in the passenger and do the same for that.

Thanks very much xTimx, I appreciate the help, I was thinking of using my existing plastic cover and molding the kickpanel to it , i've seen people remove the origional cover, but i dont want to deal with the hassle of wraping it around the door seam....is that fine or is it recommended to just make a whole new panel (this one covers the seam around part of the door and also slides under another piece of trim.)  its possible to cover the entire thing in fiberglass and make a mold from it, and then from that i can just build it up a few layers on the inside, that way i have a matching piece and it should fit like the stock panel....it would just take a bit more work.  What would u guys recommend?

you know its not necessary for your rears, but, you can fiberglass the rear deck mold the 6x9's so that they're pointing to each side of the back seat (like i mentioned above wit the fronts) it'll look real good and add more fill to the music and be a lil louder since those baby's are being pointed at your ears, lol then you wont have to turn it up as loud and not blow your speakers.
as for the door idea...i'd rather you not cut corners on this project....if your gonna learn how to do fiberglass, i'd rather you learn from scratch and how to actually make the molds and how to set up everything from using the mdf rings and dowels and fleece and all that jazz, and that way you know for sure that your speakers are being pointed for the best possible listening area in your car.

allright then...will do that.  I ripped out my trunk and stuck the subs (no box) with the amp in the car...sounds better but i had the idea of fiberglassing some boxes to fit in the leg room of the back passenger area since its a 4 door and i usually dont have more than 1 other person, so i think i may have a few things lined up now.  I wont be able to start though till the end of the month since i have other plans for the $$ with this cheque...although i might be able to do the front kickpanels, I'll see how much i have left after the other stuff (ordering parts from states so i dont know how much stuff will cost at the moment.)  i like the idea for the 6x9s....another question (not sure if its cutting corners or not), should i mold the 6x9 box straight to the metal and bondo and all that in the car, or make a seperate box that i can take out?  Curious because if i do make the seperate box, do i use adhesives or something to attach it to the spot?

forgot to mention that the sub boxes will be made removeable and the amp will have quick disconnects so i can remove the stuff quickly if i have to

the rear deck idea, to do that. all you need is to replace that stock board with 1/4" mdf as the base, then do your glassing for curves and imaging. you can just bolt down the mdf to the metal and then go from there. as for a sub box, im sorry i just cant quite put that into my head i dont think i haev ever seen that done before. other people on here might have. if you have a pic or something i would definately be able to help you. oh and just make sure you take pics when your donig this project. and another thing. make sure you can still put the stock rear deck back in, in case you have to sell the car or something.

I've never seen the subs like i talked about either, most likely because its unpractical, but i've seen plenty of impractical setups anyways, but at least i can remove the stuff and putt it elsewhere if i have to....also, this is my biggest project car, i want to learn everything from working on this (although since i painted it i kinda like it a bit more and dont want to screw it up so much) but I'm fine with leaving custom boxes and stuff in it, and i bet most people would like to have something like that in their vehicle....although i suppose i should make it removeable still.  The stock board has been removed, i replaced it with carpet, the thing is that its not flat, its got a curve in the whole metal piece, thats the way it was stock.  so would it be better than to make the entire thing out of fiberglass as the MDF wont sit nice.  I'll see if i can get some interior pics.  i have a freind with a digital camera, but it usually takes awhile to get pics....maybe i should first invest in a digi cam?
