I'm thinking about buying one of these tools. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_SessionID=@@@@1572262213.1108998488@@@@&BV_EngineID=cclgadddlkhjidgcehgcemgdffmdflh.0&pid=00917254000&subcat=Rotary+%26+Spiracutter+Tools&vertical=TOOL

Anyone have one? Opinions? I want to use it to cut MDF rings, and also I would like to use it to cut perfect squares out of MDF as well (for a not-audio related fb project). Will it do those two things? It's supposed to come with an edge guide.

very god product.  i dont have that exact one but i have a roto zip{exact same thing}.  great for fabrication projects in mdf.  definitly a must buy if you do any type of custom wokr with speaker boxes
If you say "I already know how", don't ask me a single question.

I also use a roto-zip style tool as well as a Dremel tool. They both are great for fiberglass work or cutting plastics. I use a router with a roundover bit for speaker rings though. You need a beefy but to go through 3/4" MDF. I broke the it on my roto-zip!
In a world full of copycats, it's great to be an original!

I saw the router table attachment for it and rounding off the rings came to mind. You don't think it will handle it though?

a router and a circle jig is the way to go.

I agree, mine did the job for a while, but I finally got a router and it's night and day.   spend the extra few bucks.

I bought one last week and I'm going to return it tonight. :(

The collet wrench included was for a dremel and not big enough for the cutting tool. The instructions aren't very clear, and I probably wouldn't end up using it for anything other than mdf rings. So I am going to take your advice and start looking for a router.

What size/power router do I need for cutting rings and rounding the edges?

What routers do you guys have, and how much did they cost?

Will this $70 Craftsman model do the job well?
