KDC-MP238 or CDE-9874
I have a KAC-8104D, 12" Alpine Type-R in a ported box, 6022i's in front and SPS-609 in the back.
Which deck is the overall deck for my setup. I want more bass going into my sub than my interior speakers. I don't want that distortion sound coming from my speakers when I turn up the bass. Please let me know what you think and which deck is the better?

  • Product summary

The good: The Alpine CDE-9874 features a clean faceplate design, intuitive navigation for digital audio files, and inexpensive iPod expandability.

The bad: While it has plenty of options for connection to external components, audio quality via the system's built-in amplifier can be unrefined at higher volumes.

The bottom line: The Alpine CDE-9874 is a good value entry-level car stereo, perfect for those looking to play homemade MP3 discs or iPod tracks. Audiophiles might want to look a bit higher up Alpine's lineup.

Specifications: Audio system car audio type: Radio / CD / MP3 player ; Tuner bands type: Radio tuner ; CD system type: CD / MP3 player ; See full specs

Price range: $128.15 - $174.99 check prices

The Alpine CDE-9874 is a simple single-DIN in-dash car stereo that goes head-to-head with the entry-level Sony CDX-GT420U we reviewed last week. With a clean, easy-to-use interface and built-in capability to play MP3, WMA, and AAC-encoded discs, a front-mounted auxiliary input jack, and expandability options including iPod and Bluetooth compatibility, it is about the most you can get for your money in the sub-$150 price range

A review about the Alpine I found on-line...We sell the KDC-238...A good piece for entry-level...I would recommend something w/ dedicated sub-out...

The Alpine defitnely has cooler mp3 features{at least what they say it does}...Also the Kenwood comes w/ a remote...i dont believe the Alpine does

Opinion: Alpine
The last Alpine I owned I took advantage of the LPF(Low Pass Filter) but I cant remember if the filters were only on the Low Level preouts.

"sigh" At those prices? Buy them both, take the pepsi challenge.... If you ears determine that the SQ of one exceeds the other by any significant margin. Sell the other and make all your money back. Or save it because I dont imagine there will be any warranty.

At those prices buy them both...see which one sounds better to you...Sell the other one...With those prices you can easily get your money back...I would choose the Alpine for Ipod related stuff...and the kenwood if you want a remote...
