Just got a cheap amp off .... its an MA audio i589, produces 300 rms brigded at 4 ohms and i have it hooked to a single 4 ohm sub that handles up to 400 rms, the amp has not gone into protect mode or anything and it definitely pushes the sub nicely when bridged but it gets very very hot. I have it installed under the back seat of her 1997 jeep grand cherokee because it fits perfectly there but do you guys think i should mount it on top the box so that it gets more air to maybe keep it cooler??? or any other ideas to cool it off?? I assume it will pop the fuse if it gets too hot to save the amp from frying but it sure does get hot so hot to where i cant keep my hand on it for more than a few seconds when it has been playing hard.

Leave the seat raised up to see if it still runs hot.  DO NOT mount it to the top of your box.  Vibration is the enemy.  No the fuse will not protect it from an overheating situation.  Most amps do have thermal protection to keep this from happening.  But that protection will shut it off if it reaches a certain temp.  The hotter a transistor gets the less current it can handle.  This thermal protection does not always save your amp.
