2000 Pontiac Bonneville, Cassette Stuck

ok i had a lady come into my store today and she has a cassette stuck in her factory radio it is a cassette and cd combo does anyone know any way to get the tape out with out trashing the radio and if i have to pull the whole radio out wont that lock up the security codes on it any and all help would be greatly app.my system

You should remove the radio and dis-assemble it to remove the cassette. The tape is probably caught up in the tape mechanism or the tape's label may be stuck on something. Don't force anything. To repair the damage of forcibly removing a tape is far more expensive than the tape costs to replace. The radio will only go into "Lock" mode if someone has entered a code into the radio. Before you begin, check to see if the red LED on the front of the radio is flashing with the key off. If it isn't then the theft system isn't engaged. If it is, ask the customer for the code before you pull the radio out.sparky

the cassette deck on this thing is in the middle of the unit if i tear it apart it will probally be put on display here in a post of what not to do to a factory stereo lol but what the hell she justs wants to save the tape not the radio this chick must be crazy any other tips would be of great help thanks for the helpmy system

Once, a great many years ago (i was 10 years old or so) I bought a clarion head unit with the very same problem. If I'd had the patience to wait 'till my dad came home, we would have immediately noticed the broken rubber band inside, replaced it, and gotten everything to work perfectly. However, as a 10 year old boy, patience was a quality I possessed. (Come to think of it, as a 26 year old boy today, that still holds true). So, I forced it out instead, and of course the head unit was never the same again (although we did get it to work again sort of).. To make a long story short, it may just be something like that this time, too. There are rubber bands for various purposes inside a tape deck, and it's very possible that it has simply broken..
