I was just told that Rockford Fosgate and MTX are the same company. That was from an owner of a local shop. Anyone else heard this? Is this true?

That is so far from true its rediculous. MTX and Rockford are huge rivals and have nothing to do with each other. In fact MTX is taking a chunk out of rockford every quarter. They are the two biggest selling Car Audio specific companies in the world and in the last quarter alone Rockford lost 9 million dollars, primarily due to 2 things, recalls on a lot of faulty equipment and a huge loss in customer base directly related to all these recalls. RF has been hurting for a couple years now and are only still afloat because they deal directly with Best Buy USA. If Best Buy ever decides to drop Rockford they will be outta buisness over night. If anything I say sounds unbelievable then check out Rockfords corprate web site. It shows how much money they are loosing because its a public company so it must report its figures, good or bad, to the public.

Thats what I thought. He's an old dude who always has to be "right". Obviously he was wrong.

Any Recall issues with RFR3110's?

I am 90% decided on buying 2 on wednesday after all the recommendations for replacing my 3 8000 MTX's. I figure they have to be monsters in my car, and I have heard them before.

BTW - If I do go with the RFR3110's, then I will buy at least 1 spare since they are last series model.

Man is this guy wrong....

The closest that these companies ever came to being one was when Rockford engineers went to MTX years ago.  This was during the time of real punch amps.  Punch 45, 75  and the all popular 150.

sh*t, trust me dude, RFR3110's are the best 10" SPL subs on the market. I had a pair for about a month but had to get rid of them cuz they were f**k'n my head up big time. I'm talk'n my ear's ached the first few weeks then around the last week they actually started to bleed. I dont do competition anymore so I'd only suggest these if u have a huge bass threshold or do competition.

no recalls on those drivers, my boss has 4 of them, and personally I wasnt that impressed with them but they are quite popular and seem to produce solid spl numbers, I just dont like the way they sound, but trying to get any type of sq outta a sub like that is like using a backhoe to plant a flower bed, a little overkill.

Coustic, Streetwires, Xtant and MTX are all owned by the same company (Mitek Ltd.)  Rockford Fosgate is a completely different company.  RF owns MB Quart, by the way.

Does anyone really care about sound quality from their subwoofers? All I expect from any sub is to pound. And pound hard. I only expect great SQ from the speakers inside my cars cabin.

For what its worth, Miteck produces 100's of parts for other companies such as baskets for subs and heat sinks and what not. Its absolutly crazy how many big name companies get parts from miteck although none of them will admit it. Those baskets you see for audiobahn, miteck made em. Thats a small example of how big that company is. Thats why if Circut City decided to drop MTX tomorrow the brand would still survive and come back, where as Rockford is completly dependant on their relationship with Best Buy Corp, if Best Buy drops Rockford, Rockford would go Bankrupt real fast.
