I just thought it might be fun to have a topic for the professionals to post some of the crazy requests they'e had over the years from people that didn't seem to have a grasp on mobile electronics.  Some of mine are:

A guy came in one day with a tuner deck (no internal power) and wanted me to sell him a "low-to-high convertor".  I explained that would be an amplifier.  "No", he said, "I don't want an amplifier.  There is a little adapter you can buy that just plugs into RCAs so you can connect speakers.  I've used them before."

Needless to say, I couldn't help the guy, but I told him if he found one of those to come back and show it to me.  I never saw him again.

I have more if you liked that one...

Iv had it a few times where people wanted to buy EQ's thinking they were amplifiers.   One guy's like, , man, do you think thats enough power for my subs?     uhhhhhhhhhhhh, haha just how do you go about explaining it to the guy that he's very very lost in the car audio world.

Here's another:

This happened in the early 80's when car CD players had barely been introduced and home computers were in the infancy stage.  A guy came in with an Alpine cassette deck and wanted us to hook up a microphone to it so he could just speak commands to it:  "Radio on", "Rewind tape", things like that.

"Wha?  Huh?"

I told him that couldn't be done, that voice recognition was in a very primitive stage and something like that would be incredibly expensive.  He replied that "it shouldn't be hard -- radio stations do it all the time."

More huh? wha?

"Yeah, the broadcast voice over the air all the time."

How do you explain to someone like that?  He finally left, stating that he bet Alpine would do it for him  :)

I had an individual come in the other day to have me install a new Audiobahn AEQ-7 para eq.  Started to open dash, and all of a sudden it hit me what the problem was.  Not a single amp in the car.  But he insisted that I hook it up to the deck, so that it would work with the deck.  Almost had to give him a country a**-whooping before it was all said and done.  Some peoples kids...

I was putting a stereo in a car the other day and when I finished tuning the amps I started hunting the rattles...When I found all the rattles and finished cleaning up the install I got the customer to come back and take a look to make sure he was happy with it...

Inside the car he was Very happy with the way it sounded but he raised Hell because I had fixed the rattles and he insisted that I UNDO all the fixes I had done...In his words "Rattling means that it is loud and I  want everyone to hear them."

I wanted to pound my head into a wall
