1/0 wire

Is it ever needed to run 1/0 wire to the amp?

When running high amps ( or mulitple amps ) you need 1/0 to get the most power to the amps.  Also, if you need to run lots of wire between your amp and the battery, it helps to have 1/0 gauge ( but only for huge amps ).  But you can over do it.  You don't need 1/0 for a 300 watt amp 20 feet from the battery.  It's over kill... not to mention that 1/0 ga gets high in price...~wayland

How so? Does that mean I should run 1/0 to my ADS PH15, which is only 70Wx6 downhill with a tailwind? Please, explain. I have no knowledge as to why a HF amp would ever need 1/0 in most situations. Bass is where thhe current surges live, and where the lowest impedence to the battery is required. HF amps have a much smoother power draw (lower crest factor is you will), and the amps power supplies are much more efficient up there. Can you cite a source? Thanks -daveThis is not a sig. I'm was trying to say high power amps....  I've got over 2200 watts RMS in amps in one of my trucks... and the amps are 18 feet away from the battery....  My application requires either 18 feet of 4 gauge for one amp, and 8 gauge for another  or a much cleaner setup of 1/0 gauge to a distribution block.   You wouldn't need 1/0 gauge for a 420 watt amp....   It's just not what you'd need for that kind of application...And i'm sure you already knew this....~wayland

Yeah, I was serious about the 2500 watts RMS, at an "average" length. With extra length, you might need it for any over 2000 watts. I've got 1/0 gauge running from my battery to my amp board; from there it goes into a 1/0 -> 4 guage adapter into an (8) 8 gauge block..  and I am running a U.S. Amps 2000x and a U.S. Amps 4300x..  lots o' power.. hee hee.. truely does make a different though..Girls can do anything guys can do!!
