splicing wires?

Splicing together speaker wire, will this effect the sound quality coming from the speaker?

Theoretically, yes. Noticably, no. If you're concerned about it, then solder them. But if you don't, make sure they're spliced pretty damn well - you should be able to pull on the wires with reasonable force and not have them come apart.

Wrap with electrical tape and call it a day.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
