there definitly will be high pressure in a sealed box which will affect a cone on a sub. can this damage a sub by ripping the cone or suspension off in a sealed box?

No, almost all subs are designed to be efficient in a sealed or ported enclosure. The only ones that will not sound as good would be a free air sub.

I suppose if you really got the size wrong, and added in lots of low frequency boost (loudness on at high volumes, bass knob at 11, that kind of thing).

As Jeff said, though, it wouldn't tend to be easy.

i had a Power 15" RF DVC in a bandpass box where the sealed chamber was 1.5cu.ft. and the ported was 1cu.ft.

i was hitting around 142dB with that

i had also melted the VC which cause the sub to sieze about 6 months earlier, loosened it up and still hit 142dB...........some people thought i was stupid for putting a 15 in a bandpass but it seemed to have served it purpose
