Me and another installer had an arguement about doing basic radio installs in any gm car made after 2003. He heard from someone that no matter what kind of radio that it would need the GM09B harness from scosche. He claims that if you don't use that harness, that check engine lights and air bag lights will go on. However i have done several gm radios over the years using a standard harness and have not have one check enging light on. I know though that if it has rds you need that harness. Is there anyone else that heard about this.

The radio is not tied in with the check engine light or SRS system. The RAP(retained accessory power) and warning chimes are the only features lost by using the cheaper harness. Well, that and you have to run a new ign wire if you use the standard harness. But with a couple of relays you can set up your own RAP circuit using the diagrams on this site.
Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.

That's what i said. But he still refuses to do a deck even in a 2004 base model cavalier with the 100 dollar harness
