Hi

I am installing a cd-changer (sony 10 disc CDX565MXRF) in 2005 rav-4 (L). So far I have done all the wiring – i.e ran the wires from sides of drivers seat to the trunk. Also fixed the connections to the antenna (got directions from sony’s website). Just to update, I had unistalled this cd changer from my previous Honda civic 02. while doing so I had taken pictures and tried to understand how i would then install it in the new rav4 05. I did all wiring and connection to relay box (antenna) from the unistall process.

the only 2 things remaining which I need some help with are

1.where in the trunk can I mount the changer as there has to be a black (lead) wire for earthing to be fixed to a metal in the trunk and I cannot figure a position for it

I did check my cargo area and the screws in there had a plastic like thing between the body and the screw - I understand that I need to remove (scrach off) this plastic material too OR is it even possible to stick this black wire on a metal part using some insulation tape of something

2. the other end of the electric wire which are in red and yellow – where and how do I fix them. I will connect the one end to the changer

Now, during my unstall process, the red and the yellow wires wire attached to 2 wires in a box (area with said fuse) below just under the steering wheel. I am not sure of the colors of those wires from civic but i can check from the pictures (one of them was orange). is there something similar I can do in rav4 instead of going to the battery and cigratte lighter?

any help / pictures will be of much help
Thx
Prem

For the ground, just run the black wire to some metal (check the otherside to make sure it won't hit anything) and screw it down using a ring terminal- don't try to simply tape it in place.

For your constant (yellow) and accessory (red), use a multimeter (buy one if you don't have one) to test the wires under the steering column.  Constant should be white, accessory should be blue/red.

Thanks geepherder

I got the black (lead ) wire knocked off the to-do list

but for the red and yellow wires -

1. From my previous un-install process i have learned that I could power-tap these from the wires located in the fusebox below the steering wheel in civic. however in Rav4 , its difficult to open this compartment under the steering wheel

2. without opening this compartment (fusebox), I was able to view inside (sneak) and there were a lot of wires.... is there a better can to create this power-tap.

anyone have some experience / pictures of the same

Thx

Prem

If it's just for a changer, you could tap in behind the radio.  Blue / YELLOW should be constant (yellow).  Grey should be switched (red).

You'd have to remove the radio to get to the wires behind it.  Your radio/cd player would still work.  You may check this out- I'm not sure if it's the same as yours: http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalToyRav4.htm
