I am looking at  2 alpine SWR-1042D subs due to my lack of room and powering them with either a   MRD-M1005.  Is this a good combo and if I wanted to go up a level and went with one amp per speaker would I destroy my subs?

You need the SWR-1022D subwoofers if your going to use them on one amp. You could also get 2 SWR-1042D and 2 MRD-M605 's.  And if you wanted 1 M1005 on each speaker then you would have to keep the gain low and don't abuse the subs..

Sounds like over kill at that point, maybe better power handling subs would be better.
