I just have a simple question which I so far have not been able to find the answer to.
Why or how can I connect my Mp3 player straight to my Amplifier (which drives 2 6"x9" and a 12" sub)?
I do not see the need for a head, I like the idea of hiding the entire system also. Plus all my music is in Ogg Vorbis format, which my mp3 player handles correctly but all the head units I have looked at cannot.
What would be the problems with this setup, dangers, what will I loose, and/or is there a way to do this correctly.
Thanks

You CAN do that dude but why would u want 2...u can get HU's with all kinds of animations, screen savers and all that.
But to do that take an old pair of headphones and splice it in2 a set of RCA cables and insulate it well with black tape...then plug it in2 ya amp.
But i would get a head unit

Why not use a headunit with an auxiliary input?  That way you can use an headphone to RCA adapter to feed audio from your mp3 player directly into your system.

Well the point for me is really WHY buy a head unit. My mp3 player has all the tunes I want, even a radio, and I completely care nothing for blinking lights and such. I really like the idea of an invisible setup!
My only worry was possible loss of clarity.

If that's all you want, then sure, go for it.  Just buy an adapter and run your RCA's to your amp.

You DO know such an adapter already exists, right? Don't rig it. Do it right.
Here's one...
Here's another...
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Yea do what haemphyst said.  Don't rig up a homemade pair.  Spend the extra money to get a pre made one.  It'll sound and look better and last longer.
That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

Ummmm, I might be reaching here but I bet the voltage output on a mp3 player is complete shhh. In fact I think most of them are so low that they are measured in millivolts not volts. Mabye a line driver could boost the voltage to a respectable level. If not then you are gonna need to use a head unit to boost the voltage to something thats actually usable

I dunno, I was playing with my Sony Discman and I plugged it into my e6450 with one of those headphone->rca plugs you guys are talking about... I had no problem running the bejezus out of the amp with it.. I was trouble-shooting my deck though, I didn't mess around with it too much..

i have heard of a few problems with the mp3 players and the volume output on them... i believe this is what Ravendarat is talking about..... the guys here ran the mp3 player through an fm modulator... but these problems arouse from playing an mp3 player thru a deck not stand alone..
